Dosa - The South Indian version of French crepe
As a crepe loving person this dish really impressed me from the first taste. Originated in South India, I found Dosa in a lot of restaurants in Goa, typically served for breakfast or lunch.
Dosa is a South Indian dish that is actually very similar to crepe. The difference makes the filling and the sauces on the side.
The second try of Dosa was then in Goa, the touristic hotspot on the south western coast of India. I went with Bans, an indian guy from the hostel out for lunch where we tried Masala Dosa in a authentic family restaurant at the street. The filling was a tasty potatoe cauliflower curry. This alone had a really intense and delicious taste, but the chutneys on the side added to the rich and spicy flavor. Coconut chutney - really delicious - and chili chutney - a bit too spicy for my European tongue.
Making dosa with Ruban and Dilshan
After tasting Dosa several times, it was time to make it myself. So I was lucky that the dish was part of the cooking class with Ruban. First of all we did the coconut chutney that we made out of fresh coconut Ruban just took from the tree in the garden.
The first dosa I tried was acually not in the south of India, but in the north in Agra together with my couchsurfing hosts Mohinder and Madhu. After visiting Taj Mahal we discovered a nice calm restaurant that served the flavourful crepe like dish.
